Sea Kayak - Deception Pass

Deception Pass Play Day - Have fun in a strong ebb and flood.

  • Sea Kayak IV/V
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 10.0 nm
  • Maximum Wind: 20 kts
  • Maximum Waves: 6 ft
  • Maximum Currents: 7 kts
  • Pace: 3

This paddle will test the limits of your rough water paddling skills, particularly in fast moving current.

Paddle plan:

  • We'll start playing in Canoe Pass on a fast moving ebb (-7 @ 0840)
  • Lunch break around noon
  • As flood builds, session the Room of Doom for as long as we last. (6.5 @ 1515)
  • Possibly cross Cross back to Canoe Pass to see what's up,
  • Session the eddyline off Strawberry Island, spending most of our time and energy here.
  • Return to Cornett around 3 - 4.

Paddlers should...

  • have the skills and experience to "have fun" in intense conditions.
  • be willing to work as a team, communicating, leading, following, supporting one another.
  • have experience performing rescues in moving water.
  • be willing to adapt to changing conditions and paddler needs and goals.

Don't forget your...

  • Helmet
  • VHF radio
  • Short and long tow lines
  • A paddle you don't mind bashing on the rocks (recommended due to low water levels)

Meet at Cornett Bay, ready to launch at 9:30.

Discover Pass required.
