Deception Pass

Trip

Sea Kayak - Deception Pass

Practice skills and engage in current play during a mild ebb in Canoe Pass

  • Sea Kayak IV
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 6.0 nm
  • Maximum Wind: 15 kts
  • Maximum Waves: 2 ft
  • Maximum Currents: 4.1 kts

Participants must have taken a currents clinic/course.

This is a very mild current day and perfect for folks who are still getting used to current, returning to it after a long absence, or wanting to try new skills in something milder. We will spend our time playing on the ebb current (ferrying, eddy hopping, rescues, rolls) with plenty of opportunities to practice rescues. A light activity structure will be established once we canvas participants on their goals after the roster is set. The objective of the leaders is to organize the trip so people feel supported to engage in play and practice, but this is not an instructional trip.

NOTE: This activity is listed at an SKIV because we still plan to go out if the wind picks up. Depending on the wind direction, this can alter conditions in the pass significantly. We shall monitor the weather closely.

  • Helmets are required
  • Dress for Immersion
