Sea Kayak - Commencement Bay

Trip

Sea Kayak - Commencement Bay

Let's go watch the Tacoma Lighted Boat Parade along Ruston Way.

  • Sea Kayak II/III
  • Easy
  • Mileage: 5.0 nm
  • Maximum Wind: 15 kts
  • Maximum Waves: 2 ft
  • Maximum Currents: 1 kts
  • Pace: 3

We will meet at Chinese Reconciliation Park at 5 PM. We cannot park at this park after dark, so we will drop our boats and gear off at the parking lot and park our cars outside of the park on 30th St, McCarver St, or Starr St. Someone will be there to keep an eye on the boats. Please bring a set of wheels for your boat, as we still have a walk to the water from the parking lot. I intend to launch at 5:45 PM.

This is a night paddle from Chinese Reconciliation Park. We’ll leave at 5:45 PM and return about 9 PM.

Each kayak needs a white light which can be seen up to 2 nm either mounted on your boat or at hand. But don't stop there! Christmas lights and decorations on your boat are highly desired.

Expect mid-December weather and conditions to include 1 – 2 foot waves, winds 10 -15 kts, and temperature in the high 30’s.

We will stop at a beach with no improvements to watch for a while, so a chair may be desired. Hot stuff in a thermos is recommended.
