Launch from Owen's Beach at Point Defiance. Launch by 10AM.

Come explore the south shore of Commencement Bay from Owen's Beach to Thea Foss. This trip is resisted after being cancelled once due to weather. The plan is to have lunch at a location in the Thea Foss which is accessible from the docks. Lunch plans will be secured in time for participants to plan accordingly. Plan for winter weather and roughly an SK-III trip of about 12NM, maybe a little less. Excessive winds will alter or potentially cancel trip of too serious. Leader permission is required. Required Equipment

These seven essentials plus The Ten Essentials are required on all sea kayaking trips.  All but the whistle and clothing should be provided with any kayak rental.

  1. Floatation in both ends of the kayak, Sea Sock if no bulkheads along with float bags.
  2. U.S. Coast Guard approved Personal Flotation Device (PFD)
  3. Paddle
  4. Spray skirt
  5. Bilge pump with floatation
  6. Self-rescue paddle float
  7. Waterproof whistle
  8. Appropriate clothing for the conditions encountered seasonally
