Sea Kayak - Columbia River: Sandy, Martin & Goat Islands

North and west from Kalama, explore Sandy Island and the shoreline of Trojan Park.

We will paddle across the Columbia River and north up the east side of Sandy Island. At the north end of the island we'll cross to the Oregon shore and continue north to Prescott Beach. We'll then turn back and paddle along the west side of Sandy Island before crossing back to Kalama.

We will do some rescue practice somewhere along the way as we have a couple of equivalency candidates.

We will make 2-3 stops along the way and expect to return to Kalama by about 3:30 or 4:00pm.

Meet in Kalama at the south end of Louis Rasmussen Beach Park (immediately north of Mcmenamins Ahles Point Cabin).

Be ready to launch by 9:00am.

These eight essentials plus The Ten Essentials are required on all sea kayaking trips.  All but the whistle and clothing should be provided with any kayak rental.

  1. Floatation in both ends of the kayak
  2. U.S. Coast Guard approved Personal Flotation Device (PFD)
  3. Paddle
  4. Spray skirt
  5. Bilge pump with floatation
  6. Self-rescue paddle float
  7. Waterproof whistle
  8. Appropriate clothing for the conditions encountered seasonally
