Sea Kayak - Camano Island

The meeting time is 9:30 am at Tillicum Beach. We will launch one hour later.  Please be sure to arrive at or before the meeting time so we don’t miss our launch time.  If you need more time to get your boat and gear ready for launch please plan to arrive earlier that the 9:30 am meeting time.

Tillicum Beach is on the east side of Camano Island. To find it, use the Google Maps “Plus Code” 84WV4J32+C3 or navigate to 48.1036015, -122.3998126.  As you come down East Camano Drive, turn east on East Karen Way then go north on South Tillicum Beach Drive until you reach the Tillicum Beach county park. Parking space is limited and well need to park some cars along the road. Please respect local property owners and obey parking signs.

I expect we will be off the water by 2:30pm.

This trip requires trip leader permission because it is intended for students working to complete their Mountaineers Basic Sea Kayaking badge. If you are a student in one of these courses, please contact the trip leader to be added to the roster when registration opens.

As is standard for Mountaineers Sea Kayaking activities, participants are responsible for making arrangements for their own boats, gear, food, water, etc.

Paddling style dry suits are required on this trip due to the possibly of cold water immersion.  

Note for Basic SK students in the class of 2023...Prior to the trip, please download, complete, print the Paddling Conditions form. Bring it it to the activity and give it to the trip leader. The trip leader will review your responses and send the form to your Basic SK course coordinator. Here is the link to that form:

These eight essentials plus The Ten Essentials are required on all sea kayaking trips.  All but the whistle and clothing should be provided with any kayak rental.

  1. Floatation in both ends of the kayak
  2. U.S. Coast Guard approved Personal Flotation Device (PFD)
  3. Paddle

  5. Bilge pump with floatation
  6. Self-rescue paddle float
  7. Waterproof whistle
  8. Appropriate clothing for the conditions encountered seasonally
  9. SEA KAYAKING DRYSUIT DUE TO POTENTIAL FOR CAPSIZE IN COLD WATER.
