This iconic backpack to Shi Shi Beach and Point of the Arches in Olympic National Park on the Pacific Ocean will be held during a full moon, with low tides and the opportunity to see lots of tidepools!

Although our distance each day isn’t far, we will be hiking for 2 days on sand, which can be challenging. (Note also sand-appropriate tent spikes are recommended.)

On Day 1, we will drive to the Makah Indian Reservation in Neah Bay (the northwestern-most point of the contiguous United States). It is about 4 hours from Seattle. We will take a tour of the superb
Makah Indian Museum (admission $10), then hike the short but stunning trail to Cape Flattery. We will drive a short distance to Hobuck Beach Resort and set up camp (campsite fee is $10/tent).

On Day 2, we will drive the short distance to the Sh Shi Beach trailhead, then hike 4 miles to Petroleum Creek, where will set up camp. We'll continue hiking as far as we like, or you can choose to hang around camp for a lazy afternoon. In the morning, when the tides will be at their lowest, we'll check out the tidepools at nearby Point of Arches. When we've had our fill, we'll hike back to the trailhead and drive home.

The leader will host a Zoom call about a week before the trip. Details to come.

The trip will be canceled or relocated if significant rain is forecast.

We will meet at lunch late morning in Neah Bay. Details to come.
