Trip plan:
- Day 1: Hoh Trailhead → Olympus Guard Station (~9 miles, ~500 ft gain)
- Day 2: Olympus Guard Station → Glacier Meadows (~8 miles, ~3,000 ft gain)
- Day 3: Day hike to Blue Glacier from Glacier Meadows (~3 miles round trip, ~1,000 ft gain, steeper/rocky terrain), then continue to Lewis Meadow (~6.5 miles descent)
- Day 4: Lewis Meadow → Hoh Trailhead (~10.5 miles, mostly downhill)
This is a longer trip with back-to-back mileage, so participants should be comfortable hiking 10 miles with a full pack. The trail is non-technical, but endurance is key.
The Blue Glacier section is shorter but more rugged—expect uneven footing and rocky terrain. Good balance and confidence on rough terrain are important.
Food storage: Bear canisters are required for this trip. Please bring an approved canister that fits all of your food and scented items.
Permit fee: Upon receiving permission to join the trip, participants will need to reimburse the leader $30 for permit costs.
Registration note: When requesting permission, please include a few recent backpacking trips of similar difficulty.
I prefer early morning starts to make the most of the day and avoid heat and crowds, so please be ready for prompt departures each day. We’ll keep a steady pace with breaks and regroup points, aiming for a supportive and enjoyable group experience.
Be prepared for changing weather, bugs, and typical backcountry conditions in Olympic National Park.
My leadership style is relaxed but organized—I prioritize safety, clear communication, and making sure everyone has a great experience out there.
Details will be provided to the participants before the trip by the email.
