Naturalist Trip - Shoreview & Boeing Creek Parks
A very short (half day) hike to admire and review mosses, lichens, liverworts and more (maybe mushrooms?) among the fall foliage. A peaceful walk in the park to recover from Thanksgiving

We'll meet at 10 am at the main entrance to the Pond Loop Trail on NW 175th St between 3rd and 6th Ave NW, where there is on-street parking. No restrooms, so plan accordingly. Expect about 3 hours, max of 4, to wander the trails.
This outing is intended mainly for those who have taken the Moss and Lichen course, but others with interest and the patience to look closely at the miniature landscapes of the natural world are also welcome. We will be walking a couple different trails in this former Boeing Estate. Rain and a little wind may bring a good selection of lichens. Various mosses are distributed along the trails and a few old trees have escaped logging. If time allows and the water has receded, the Dry Creek Crossing gives access to the south side of the creek.
The north side of Boeing Creek is quite different than the south.
If the weather is too dry I will bring a spray bottle so we can see how quickly the mosses absorb the moisture and recover.
Bring a loupe if you have one. We'll certainly have a couple extras, as well as extra copies of the Moss and Lichen chart used in the course.
Dress warmly, prepared for rain and some mud in the creek area.
