Naturalist Trip - Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge
Let's enjoy a weekend morning at the refuge seeing what birds are around and looking for early signs of spring. I was there yesterday and already saw some Skunk Cabbage peaking up through the mud.

We'll wander the refuge's trails together, looking for birds and early signs of spring. Our pace will be slow, and when we're out on the boardwalk it will probably be windy, so dress more warmly than you might for a hike. If you would like to use the Merlin Bird ID app, please load that onto your phone in advance as well as the bird pack for "US: West Coast". Bring a snack that is easily eaten from the trail; depending on tide times and whether we are there during a typical lunch time, we may stop for a more extended break. In addition to the Ten Essentials bring warm clothing that you can layer, binoculars, any bird books you like to use, and shoes with good traction for the often wet and slippery boardwalk. This hike will be cancelled or rescheduled if moderate rain or winds are in the forecast.
Meeting location and time will be sent to registered participants three days prior to the trip. A National Parks Pass (or its equivalent) or $3 per car for parking is required. Meeting time may be determined by tide schedule so as to allow us to see more birds.
