Naturalist Trip - Moss Lake Natural Area

Priority will be given to recent Moss Workshop participants. Come explore this wonderful area that is full of mosses, liverworts and lichens. This will be a good review/reinforcement of what you learned in the workshop.

  • Easy, Easy
  • Easy
  • Mileage: 3.7 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 360 ft
  • Pace: We will move slowly with many stops

The focus will be to learn some of our many mosses, lichens and liverworts using the moss guide book you received in class, the Washington Wildflower App (yes, it has mosses and lichens!) and other apps such as Seek.  Be sure to bring your loop.  I find it helpful to take photos with my phone and label them on the spot - but please, use any method for learning that works for you!  It will  be wet and muddy - that's what mosses love.  We will take a break for lunch in one of the really forested parts of the trail.

Bring snacks and water, lunch, moss guide books, loop, cameras and a cooperative spirit.  There is no cell phone service at this location.

We will meet at 10:30am by the restroom at the trail head.  Carpooling is always suggested, but this park has about 15 parking spots.
