Naturalist Trip - Mason Lake
The Ira Spring Trail passes from temperate forest to subalpine forest along the route to Mason Lake. Join us on this Naturalist hike to explore the moss, ferns, and wildflowers that are abundant there in June.

This is a somewhat steeply ascending forest hike that culminates in a deep alpine lake. The trail abounds with interesting plants and wildflowers and we will stop often to identify, observe, and take pictures. Given the long June day, this will be a whole day outing to allow plenty of time for exploration. As with most Naturalist hikes, the pace will be slower with many stops. The expectation is that the group hikes together and everyone contributes to a fun and interesting outing.
Bring snacks, water, lunch, field guides and apps, hand lens, cameras and a cooperative spirit. Bring rain gear and dress in layers; wear boots/shoes suitable for a muddy, steep trail. Bring trekking poles if you use them.
A Hello Hiker email will be sent out a few days before the trip with further instructions and updates.
Those who would like to carpool are encouraged to arrange their own via email.
We will meet at 8:30 am at the Ira Spring Trailhead, boots on and ready to hike.
Directions:
Head eastbound on I-90 to exit 45. Turn left and cross under the highway, then veer left onto FR-9030. About one mile from the exit, stay left at the fork onto Mason Lake Road, FR-9031. Park in the lot at the end of this road, 3.8 miles from the highway. There is a pit toilet at the trailhead. Northwest Forest Pass required for parking.
