Naturalist Trip - Lower Big Quilcene

Join in a leisurely Naturalist hike in the Quilcene River Canyon to discover the abundance of spring wild flowers and plants on the eastern slope of the Olympics.

  • Easy/Moderate
  • Casual
  • Mileage: 3.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 500 ft
  • Pace: 1.0

The leaders will bring guides and plant lists to help identify the wild flowers and plants along the trail.  We will focus our plant identification on ten key plant species found in the Quilcene River Canyon.

Feel free to bring any plant or flower guides that you have, a hand lens or magnifying glass, and binoculars.

Bring appropriate clothing for warmth and rain.  Since we will be stopping often and moving slowly, you may require more clothing to stay warm.

A lunch stop is planned for the midpoint of the hike, possibly at Bark Shanty Camp.

Meeting place and time will be sent to registered participants two or three days prior to the trip.  A Northwest Forest Pass or Interagency/America the Beautiful Pass is required for parking at the trailhead.
