Naturalist Trip - Deception Pass State Park

Deception Pass is a great destination for early spring flowers, birdwatching and learning about the area’s geology. We will visit 3 or 4 areas of the park. This will be a full day trip.

Trip activities will begin at 9:30AM at the Rosario Beach parking lot.

Seattle carpoolers will depart at 8AM from the park and ride located at First Ave NE and NE 148th Street.  Deception Pass is a popular destination.  Carpooling is encouraged.  Please arrive at the carpool location at 7:50AM.

A Discover Pass is required.

This all day trip will focus on the geology of Deception Pass, early spring lowland plants and waterfowl that have not yet headed north.  We will start activities at Rosario Beach, then drive to Pass Island and then to West Beach where the trip will end.  

Bring lunch and snacks, binoculars, a scope if you have one and field guides or apps for flowers and birds.  Loupes will also come in handy if you have one.  

Geology information will be sent to participants prior to the trip for review.  During the trip there will be discussions and Q&A about the area’s geology.   Before the trip please review the 30 minute video presentation on geology.  There is also a slide deck you can access if you so choose.
