Naturalist Trip - Crowberry Bog

On this Naturalist trip we will have a special tour of this unique bog environment on the Olympic Peninsula. The DNR special managers will walk us through the bog explaining how bogs work and showing us the unique flora and fauna. This is a state Department of Natural Resources Natural Area Preserve and not part of the national park.

Priority is given to the Olympia Naturalist Committee members.

The tour will involve short, pretty much flat hiking off trail through wetland vegetation for short distances totalling 1/2 to 1 mile at most.  Vegetation is dense in places and we will be waling through wet ground including potentially some standing water. of up to several inches.  Footing can be very uneven, with hummocks and low spots in between.

We will be meeting where there is limited parking so carpooling will be highly encouraged.

Trip will last 3-4 hours.

The leaders will be presenting an online class through Seattle Naturalist Committee some time in March or April, which participants should consider registering for independently.

7:15 at Olympic National Forest HQ on Black Lake Blvd or by special arrangement.

We need to be near the Hoh Mainline road rendezvous location on Hwy 101 at 10:00am.
