Let's go spend the night at the MTTA Yurt:
https://skimtta.org/product/the-yurt/
I booked the entire cabin for our group! Expect a fireplace and a fully stocked kitchen with a gas stove. We will need to bring some overnight and emergency gear (including a warm sleeping bag), but can leave the tents and stoves at home. A possible itinerary:
- day 1: carpool to trailhead, visit the Snow Bowl Hut for lunch, then make our way to the Yurt and get settled for the night
- day 2: return via Snow Bowl Hut (for another hot lunch!) or via ungroomed trail; perhaps visit High Hut?
More details about equipment to be shared as the date gets closer. Participants will need to reimburse leader $15 for the cost of reservation, and we will all need to share in the cost of Sno-Park permits.
Bad weather (i.e. storm warnings) will cancel this outing. There is always a small but nonzero chance that we might get stuck at the huts for an extra day if the road is not cleared, so be prepared for adventure and flexible in your planning.
Leader permission required. In the permission form, please describe your planned winter conditioning and experience with long snowshoe trips. Because we're staying indoors, winter camping experience is not required, but this shouldn't be your first time carrying all your overnight gear in a backpack.
