This is a winter scramble and not open to students of the scramble or basic climb course. Participants should be confident with their use of ice axe and crampons.
Required gear: crampons, ice axe, helmet, and snowshoes with aggressive crampons such as MSR. Avalanche beacon, probe, and metal shovel is optional but highly recommended for everyone. We should have at least 4 shovels for the group.
Ignore that route description above. We'll be taking a winter route that leaves the trail almost immediately. Perhaps some annoying small trees for a short time, definitely a true scramble.
If avalanche conditions are not suitable for this trip, nearby Humpback Mt may be an option. Otherwise, we'll head east to the better weather for a snowshoe trip to Teanaway Butte. This would be a moderate-strenuous snowshoe trip, starting near 29 Pines CG on the North Fork Teanaway River Road, following a loop route, as conditions allow.
