7:00 AM at Gig Harbor Park & Ride
Direction to the Trailhead: Drive U.S. 101 north of Hoodsport along Hood Canal. Proceed to the Hamma Hamma River Road (Forest Service Road 25) 2.3 miles north of Eldon. Drive 7.6 miles to the trailhead, elevation 700 feet. A Northwest Forest Pass is required to park at the trailhead. Route: The Lena Lake trailhead starts at about 700’. The trail climbs 1200’ in 1.5 miles to lower Lena Lake. The route then traverses around the lake to the upper Lena Lake/Brothers trail junction and east to the Valley of the Silent Men. We will follow the trail to The Brothers as far as time/motivation allows. Personal Equipment: Ten essentials, maps are USGS Mt. Washington & USGS The Brothers (Green Trails: The Brothers No. 168 or Custom Correct: The Brother-Mount Anderson are also listed as applicable, but I haven’t verified either. If you choose one of these maps please make sure the entire route is shown), clothing including waterproof jacket and pants, warm hat, gloves, gaiters. Enough food to eat light and continuous – we will also find a good spot to stop for lunch. A pack large enough to accommodate all this along with some group gear. This is a good trip to use ski or trekking poles if you have them. An ice axe is not required, but bring it along if you like.
