We will meet at the market in Randle on the morning of the event. Details to follow by email after registration closes.
Although this is rated a basic canyon, it is early season and we are hoping to catch some moderate-high flow. Due to the expected flow this trip is only open to intermediate canyoneers. If we encounter extreme conditions, we will try plan B.
We will discuss how to read a waterfall's trajectory, how to plan your descent in whitewater, and practice some common techniques used to descend in pushy flow while on rappel:
- Minimizing surface area - on the legs
- Sideways posture
- Pencil technique
- Duck-under
- Ledge start
- Stemming on rappel over a spout
- Creating an air pocket
Priority will be given to moving the group down the canyon.
The plan is to do the main fork. When we get to the confluence we can make a group decision whether we want to go back up to do the two rappels in the west fork, or simply continue down to the exit.
