Crevasse Rescue Refresh -  One Day Clinic

This refresh seminar is being offered primarily to meet demand in Olympia for crevasse rescue training, and as a next best thing to an actual rescue course, which Olympia hopes to bring back in 2023. This one day clinic does not aspire to be a substitute for a fuller rescue course, and no badges will be awarded.  Accordingly, participants should have had some prior crevasse rescue training.   Participants should also expect a brief logistics coordination meeting the week prior to the field trip, which will be mandatory.

Until May 1, 2022 - registration priority is for anyone (from any branch) signed up to lead a Glacier Climb, or a rope on a Glacier Climb, for participants of Olympia's 2022 Basic Climbing Program.

Requests to participate should speak to your prior rescue experience, and include a date and objective for a qualifying Glacier Climb.  Requests without these details may be ignored.

The clinic will facilitate opportunities to practice:

  • 3 Person rope travel and Drop Assist and Z Pulley rescue;
  • 2 Person rope travel and Drop Assist and Z Pulley rescue;
  • Snow Anchors; and
  • Rope Team Rescue methods such as Direct Haul.

To get the most from this clinic, participants should be able to identify the skills they wish to improve.  BE INTENTIONAL, and be prepared for a long day out.
