The start of the Ptarmigan Traverse. We'll venture south of Cascade Pass for a long 2-day or 3-day trip back to the south approach to Formidable.

  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 20.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 6,100 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 8,325 ft

Trip details to be distributed closer to the climb date.  Game plan is to try to do this in two long days however it is very likely that on summit day we will only be able to move camp closer to the TH and spend a second night out.

Formidable is a very "involved" climb with challenging route finding, significant elevation gain, and a very long summit day.  Registrants for this trip should be fit and prepared to work hard this weekend.

If you are interested in the climb, please read up on Formidable and then send a climbing resume demonstrating prior glacier travel experience as well as your physical fitness for a trip of this profile.  This would not be a good choice for someone's second or third glacier climb.

Note, this will be the Experience climb for two Intermediate Glacier Travel students.
