Intermediate Alpine Climb - Mount Baker/North Ridge

Early season attempt of the North Ridge route. Maybe it's fat with snow; maybe global warming and low snow pack has it just right before the end of May. Not intended to be anyone's first intermediate climb, please read Leader Notes before requesting permission.

People I have climbed with and know to be capable;
People with a Mountaineers "Activities" list containing numerous successful climbs of "Intermediate" routes and/or mountains greater than 10K'; and
People who can otherwise articulate how they are prepared to be a great teammate on this trip.

  • The Ten Essentials
  • Mountain boots that can accept crampons (not hiking boots)
  • Crampons suitable for ice, should we find it
  • Two technical ice tools or an ice axe and a technical ice tools
  • A sleeping bag rated to +20 degrees or colder
  • A sleeping pad
  • A back pack (40 to 60 liters)
  • Webbing and accessory cords
  • 6 straight gate carabiners
  • 2 locking carabiners
  • Large pear-shaped locking carabiner
  • Belay device
  • Climbing harness
  • Helmet
  • Rescue pulley
  • Fleece or puffy jacket
  • Rain jacket and full-zip rain pants
  • Belay gloves
  • Warm gloves or mittens
  • Cordellete
  • Two pickets and other relevant protection, such as ice screws, as assigned
  • Extra webbing or cord
  • Flotation TBD
