Goals and expectations:

  • Dates may change depending on weather and conditions
  • A 2 day/1 night climb of Mt Baker via the North Ridge. We will camp 1 night at Gargoyle Rocks, ~6,275'
  • Alpine start on day 2 to climb the North Ridge while carrying our skis, summit, descend via Coleman-Deming back to camp, then ski out.
  • Climbing the North Ridge is AI 2-3, and is even more strenuous with the addition of carrying skis. Please be aware of your comfort level ice climbing while carrying extra weight
  • Participants are expected to lead at least 1 pitch of ice to get alpine ice credit counting toward Intermediate Alpine Climbing course graduation requirements

Requesting permission:

  • This trip is open to people who have completed the Alpine Ice module or equivalent from any branch
  • Must have previous backcountry skiing experience on glaciers
  • When requesting permission, please mention your alpine ice climbing experience, previous glacier experience, previous glacier skiing experience, and current conditioning.
