Chair Peak/North Face (winter)

Trip

Intermediate Alpine Climb - Chair Peak/North Face (winter)

one-day ice climb

  • Intermediate Ice Climb
  • Challenging
  • Pace: Moderate

Will pick one day of the two, whichever had good weather, close to the trip date, after short-term forecast becomes available. Details to be discussed via email.

This is not the popular ice route up Chair Peak (look for the Northeast Buttress).

This is not a good choice of a climb for ice credit. You should have done other ice climbs after graduation from Alpine Ice (or equivalent) before signing up for this one, ideally more than one, and/or in winter conditions.

This climb is very condition dependent, and can be super sketchy if conditions are not ideal. You will be climbing crappy ice and steep snow with scarce to nonexistent pro, placing pitons, spectre, and stubby screws. Make sure to read the trip reports to verify that this climb is within your risk tolerance limits before requesting leader's permission.

Date is tentative - during this time of the year, conditions often tend to be poor due to weather, avy risk, or the route not being in, and most climbs are cancelled or rescheduled. This climb, as noted above, is condition-dependent, so please be flexible.

Details to be discussed via email. Please feel free to reach out with questions.
