Ash Way Park & Ride at I-5/I-405. Details will follow the week prior.

This tour is an opportunity for you to develop your hazard recognition, hazard assessment and risk minimization skills in glacial terrain. We will tour the Coleman/Roosevelt glaciers. This is not a summit attempt. Expect to actively participate and form opinions about our travel decisions. The goal is for you to gain the confidence to expand your experience base in travels with your peers.

Day 1 we will hike/tour to a snow camp along the normal climbing route. In the afternoon we will do a ski descent(s) from Heliotrope Ridge.

Day 2, morning is our glacier tour. We will observe conditions, make decisions on our protective strategy, travel among crevasses, probe them, observe other alpine hazards. We may tour to just below the CD saddle. After an early afternoon ski descent back to camp, we will pack up and tour to a saddle above Grouse Creek. A final ski descent brings us to a meadow and a short off trail hike through virgin forest back to the car.

Your need solid, confident downhill ski ability as part of our risk minimization. We will adjust our terrain selection, if group skills require. For Grouse Creek you must be comfortable on firm 30d slopes with an overnight pack.
