Basic Glacier Climb - Mount Rainier/Emmons Glacier

Glacier climb primarily for Kitsap students. Will open to all 2 weeks prior to the climb.

We will meet at the White River Campground.  Likely carpool from Mullenix park and ride for those on the peninsula.  

We will hike up to Camp Shurman leaving around 0800 on the 22nd.  Set up camp, rest and go for the summit with an alpine start on the 23rd.  Like start time for summit will be 0030.  We will assess the party, and if health, conditioning or weather issues, use the 24th for the attempt to summit.

Leader's permission required.  Must be in condition.  I will want to understand what you have been doing to get ready.

Get your climbing permit for Rainier and have the number available for our permit the morning of the 22nd.

  • A sleeping bag rated to +20 degrees or colder

  • 6 straight gate carabiners
  • 2 locking carabiners
  • Large pear-shaped carabiner
  • Belay device
  • Climbing harness
  • Helmet
