9:00 AM at I-90, Exit 54, Near 3-way stop at Hyak Residential Area
NOTE: Original Plan was to hike the Umtanum Creek trail. However, that trail head is not accessible due to the Yakima Canyon being closed because of a bi-cycle event that day. Instead we'll do the Yakima Ridge Trail, which is in the same area. but accessible from a different road. This new route has much less elevation gain over the same distance, so we will probably do between 10-12 miles of what would normally be a 19 mile loop that has a 2,000 ft gain, most of which is gained towards the end. To be clear, we will do about 12 miles, with what should be a minimal amount of elevation gain..... They say that May is the best time for flowers on the Umtanum Ridge so let's go find out! This is a 6 to 8 mile strenuous hike that has a 2000-2300 foot elevation. Will be following description from Hike #33 in the BEST Wildflowers Hikes Washington - Kruckeberg. This hike requires a WA Fish & Wildlife Parking Permit. Please let me know if you happen to have a WDFW Parking permit already (or that you would be willing to get one, if needed). Please be prepared to contribute to the cost of a parking permit (a few dollars)
