An early-morning, weekday, 3.5-mile hike on the Wilderness Peak Loop trail at Cougar Mt. This short and steep hike offers a diversity of forested hillsides, huge mossy boulders, and a low swampy area traversed via a narrow boardwalk.

The Wilderness Peak Loop Wilderness hike has a rather steep ascent for the first half, and a steep descent for the return. To ensure this experience is enjoyable for you and everyone else make sure you can cover steep terrain at the listed 2mph. The view at the top is well blocked by trees that have grown up over the years, but it's still a beautiful hike throughout. Keep an eye on the weather forecast for Cougar Mt., and expect rain and mud.
Meet at 8am at the Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park / Jim Whittaker Wilderness Peak Trailhead. The parking lot comes up fast when you are travelling along HWY 900. No special parking passes required, but there are only a dozen or so parking spots at this trailhead.
