Meet at the Whittaker Wilderness Trailhead on the east side of Cougar Mountain at 7:30 a.m. ready to walk by 7:45. Please arrange carpooling using Mountaineers policies. Time suggested to avoid downtown Seattle traffic and allow half a day of work afterward, perfect for those wishing to train beforehand. https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/washington/whitaker-peak-and-shy-bear-loop-trail-to-doughty-falls has information about our loop.
Anticipating chilly conditions, our breaks will be relatively short to keep people moving, with short 10-15 minute breaks at Whittaker Wilderness Peak to sign in at the register and again at Doughty Falls for photos. Bring warm clothing, microspikes in case there's ice/snow, trekking poles, and a hot beverage of your choice. If it's not too cold, we'll add a few 3-5 minute mindfulness pauses to listen for birds, admire the frost, or take photos, but the top priority will be the warmth and safety of hikers.
