West Tiger Mountain No. 1

Day Hike - West Tiger Mountain No. 1

A less-traveled route and an early start to hopefully avoid some of the weekend Tiger crowds, but still enjoy what may be the only rain-free day this week. 2400' gain so please be in shape. Very likely MUDDY, including in some of the steep parts. Minimal if any views. Covid Phase 2

COVID-19: Learn about our most up-to-date guidance for participants and leaders on our COVID-19 Response page. All participants and leaders must agree to the COVID-19 Code of Conduct before participating in this Mountaineers activity.

w tiger 1 fig 8.jpgWe will meet at the Preston Trail trailhead at 8:15 am.  There are no restrooms as this spot.  You will need a Discover Pass.

Driving directions: From Seattle, drive east on I-90 to exit 22. Turn right onto SE 82nd and then right again onto Preston Way. Look for a trailhead with no parking on the left-hand side of the road. If you reach the DOT facility you have gone too far. This link includes a photo of the trailhead to help you find this less-than-distinct spot: https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/preston-trail

(Note: When there last year, saw no "No Parking' signs on left side of road, nor any signs requiring Discovery Pass. But parking on the right side and putting out your Disco pass still recommended. )

Use the directions above for TH meeting place, not the GPS point on the map. I intend to be there early so you can look for a white Subaru hatchback with bike rack.

Very likely muddy. So please where appropriate footwear and if, like me, you are a sometimes pole*s) user, I recommend them for mid/late Nov. on this trail.

Dress in layers and please have rain gear just in case. Even if no rain, wet vegetation may make for wet travel.

We will generally stay in voice and visual contact, at least of the person ahead and behind you. And stop and regroup at all junctions. So if like to go your own pace, please don't sign up. Thank you.
