Day Hike - West Tiger Mountain 1-2-3

A perfect early-season challenge for those who have maintained conditioning year-round and are looking for a gradual ramp-up for longer hikes, climbing, or scrambling for 2025. Join me for Nook/Section to WT3 - 2 - 1 and back down via TMT/RR to loop back to the Tradition Lake parking lot.

  • Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 10.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,800 ft
  • Pace: 2 up 2.5+ mph down

Join me on one of my usual Tuesday morning excursions! Perfect for those who have maintained conditioning year-round and are looking for a gradual ramp-up for longer hikes, climbing, or scrambling for 2025.

This will be a loop from the DNR Parking lot (also called Tradition Lake lot off Exit 20), first hiking up the Nook/Section Trail. (Better preserved, this is the less-used and less eroded version of the Cable Line Trail). This 1/2 mile section will gain 800 feet, but we will hike this part nice and steady at 1.5 mph with a short break on the level. We will then briefly continue to WT3 and catch a view, then, weather permitting, continue to WT2 and 1 before looping down to the TMT until we resume travel on the standard WT3 Trail to the cars.

The uphill pace will be roughly 2 mph (a little slower on the steep section) and downhill more like 2.5 mph.

Only high winds, icy conditions, or freakish late-season high-dump snowstorms will cancel this hike.
