Cable Line Trailhead at 5:30pm.

This after hours trip up the cable line trail is a midweek training hike.  It is open to everyone but is intended for people who are building their fitness for the 2015 season. Even if you’re getting out on the trails on the weekends, in order to build you’ve got to do something in the middle of the week too -- this trip is an alternative to yet another evening at the gym.

Even though this winter is mild, March conditions can be unpredictable, even on nearby Tiger.  The trail may be muddy or there may be patches of snow especially near the top (unlikely, but still).  The leader will cancel the trip if the weather is bad or if conditions are unsafe, but if conditions are merely unpleasant the trip will go.

We will ascend the Cable Line Trail, spend about 15 minutes at the summit to snack and adjust clothing, then descend via the less-steep Tiger 3 Trail.  The goal will be to complete the ascent in 80 minutes: a pace of 1000 vertical feet every 40 minutes.  If this is slower than your normal pace please compensate by carrying more weight -- we need to stick together as a group for safety, as most or all of the hike will be in the dark.

Sunset is at 7:28pm.

Equipment:

  • Headlamp with spare batteries - REQUIRED.  Much of the trip will be in the dark.
  • Traction devices - REQUIRED.  We will probably not use them, but it’s still only March so good to have them in the pack just in case.
  • Trekking poles - RECOMMENDED.  These give stability and confidence when descending in the ark.
  • The usual Essentials.
