Day Hike - Wallace Falls

Enjoy a morning hike at Wallace Falls via the Woody Trail (just outside of Gold Bar) and bask in the gorgeous scenery as you wind your way along the Wallace River and approach the Lower, Middle, and Upper Falls. This moderate hike of 5.5 miles and elevation gain (1300 feet, most of which occurs on a series of switchbacks between the Middle and Upper Falls) is welcoming to conditioned newcomers and seasoned hikers alike.

  • High Point Elevation: 1,500 ft

Thank you for joining me on my Mentored Leader Hike : ).  Annora will be joining us as my mentor leader.

Expect a pace of ~ 1.75 mph on the climb up and ~ 2.25 mph on the descent.

I hiked the trail this week and will update the group on trail conditions prior to our hike.  The trail is wide and well-defined, with plenty of stairs and bridges, and railings - all in good condition; there were only a few isolated patches of mud, easily avoidable.  No fallen trees across the trail.  Very comfortable footing.  Between the middle and upper falls, there are some rocky and rooty steps that were a bit slippery after rain, so be careful. Also, the trail can be narrow at points, so keep your eye on the trail.

We'll walk as a group at a conversational pace and take 5-minute breaks at each of the 3 Fall viewpoints and the Skykomish Valley viewpoint- a great time for photo opportunities.  We will enjoy a longer break at the Upper Falls (~15 minutes) and then head back down the same way to enjoy the Falls and Valley views, taking breaks as needed.  I expect the hike to take ~ 3.5 hours with breaks.

We will hike rain or shine.  If a weather front comes through, we will not hike in high winds, snow, or excessive rain.

Meeting Time:  8:45 am, arrive early to gear up and use the facilities

Hike Time:  9:00 am, be ready to hike

Gear:  Make sure to dress appropriately for the weather.  There are some steep steps, and if cold when we start, the steps, bridges, and platforms could be slippery.  Shoes with a good grip, poles, and layered clothing are recommended.
