Marmot Pass & Buckhorn Mountain

Trip

Day Hike - Upper Big Quilcene to Marmot Pass

Late season attempt on Marmot Pass. Be prepared for snow and cold!

  • Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 11.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 3,500 ft
  • Pace: 2.0, faster on the downhill

My goals for this trip are:

1. Be safe

2. Make it to the pass even if some Type 2 fun is involved

3. Learn something

My expectations for trip participants are:

1. Follow Leave No Trace Principles.

2. Have the necessary gear and clothing for safe shoulder season hiking. Micro spikes or equivalent will likely be required for this trip.

3. Be able to maintain a steady 2.0 mph pace on the way up and faster on the way down. Daylight is limited this time of year so we will need to move efficiently.

4. Weather will not cancel this trip. If extremely inclement we will do the Lower Big Quilcene, but it will have to be pretty inclement. Be ok with cold, rain and even some snow.

5.  Be comfortable hiking in some snow if necessary.
