This hike is on the dry side of the mountains in sagebrush steppe country, where the annual wildflower show has already started. There are groves of aspen trees, beaver ponds, relics of an old homestead, and a lovely riparian environment on this hike. The trail follows Umtanum Creek through a narrowing canyon that wildlife call home, and if we are very lucky, we might catch a glimpse of big horn sheep on the cliffs above the canyon.
