Loop hike starts up Umtanum Creek for 2 miles, then heads straight up the ridge to Wenas Pt. Distance is around 8 miles. Some off-trail travel required. Moderate pace as your venerable leader has not been out hiking as much as he should. Wild flowers should be out in abundence. Trailhead is at a pedestrian bridge that crosses the Yakima River at the Umtanum Recreation Area that is located 12 miles south of Ellensburg, on Canyon Road, State Route 821. Expect to pay $30.00 for gas as it is a 250 mile round trip.
