8:00 AM at West side of bridge in Marblemount
Destination change from Horseshoe Basin to Trappers Peak. I spoke to the Marblemount Ranger Station today and the Cascade River road is not scheduled to be reopened until August 15. The plan is to meet in Marblemount and consolidate cars then go to the trailhead. Trappers Peak would is about 11 miles and 3500' of elevation gain. A warning about Trappers Peak, to quote from the 100 Hikes in the North Cascades book: "The route is steep in places and requires use of the hands but is not really tough. Early in the season there may be dangerous snow patches; go above or below them. Turn around content when the way gets too scary for plain-and-simple hikers." Hopefully the snow patches will be gone.
