Enjoy this very interesting beach as we explore marine life during a low tide. Finish the hike with an art activity capturing what you observed during the hike.
We hope to see oysters, crabs, sand dollars, cool seaweeds, seabirds and shellfish farming. Low tide is predicted to be -0.63 around 11:16 a.m. Bring binoculars if you have them or use ours. Nature guides and bird/animal apps can add fun to our activities. I'll bring nature charts to share.
Please bring a lunch to munch at a picnic table near the beach while we work on our art project. We'll plan to have lunch around noon. A special snack will also be provided, other snacks to share are also welcome. We'll pack up and return to our cars about 1 p.m.
Items provided: Clipboards, colored pencils, pastels, markers, sand (optional addition for your artwork), stencils and paper (you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer).
Please dress for the weather. Be sure to bring beach shoes that can get wet and good dry shoes to change into.
Parents must bring a pack with Family Essentials, including a family first aid kit, water, spare food, and spare clothing.
All kids should bring a backpack with a waist strap if possible, their own water, spare clothes/gear and good walking shoes or boots.
This hike is for kids and adults accompanying them. Unattached adults can sign up but will be removed from roster if they displace any families. All participants must be registered.
Weather can be a little unpredictable at any time in the Pacific Northwest, unless it's severely bad weather we'll plan to proceed. You will receive an email at least 2 days in advance with final details or any changes.
DISCOVER PASS REQUIRED! We will meet in the lower parking lot of Tolmie State Park by the bridge at 10:00 a.m. Parking can be a challenge, especially in the lower lot that is by the beach. Don't be surprised if you need to park in the upper lot and walk down, so leave time for parking.
