Tiger Mountain Lowlands

Day Hike - Tiger Mountain Lowlands

If you've already taken the Staying Found or Wilderness Navigation class and want a chance to practice your skills, please join me for this navigation-oriented hike on Tiger Mountain.

COVID-19: Learn about our most up-to-date guidance for participants and leaders on our COVID-19 Response page. All participants and leaders must agree to the COVID-19 Code of Conduct before participating in this Mountaineers activity.
  • Easy
  • Mileage: 5.0
  • Elevation Gain: 1,200 ft
  • Pace: Roughly 1.5 mph with stops for discussion

We will meet at the High Point Trailhead at 10 a.m. I will send directions to participants by email. **Because the parking lot may be full, I will be at the  Tibbets Park and Ride next to the skate park at 9:30 if you care to carpool. We will leave the Park and Ride at 9:45.**

The hike will be about 5 miles and we will be following a route in the Tiger Mountain lowlands that was used in the recent Staying Found class. We will do the on-trail exercises from the class. If there is time, we will practice taking leap-frog bearings. Doesn't that sound fun!

Everyone will have a chance to lead a different section of the trail. Don't worry if you're rusty or still struggling to understand the concepts - that's what this hike is for. I anticipate hiking at about a 1.5-mile-per-hour pace, with several stops along the way to discuss the exercises, so if you are hoping for a bun-burner, this isn't it.
PLEASE NOTE: If the forecast calls for too much rain to be a comfortable day hike, I will reschedule the hike.
