Teanaway Butte

Trip

Day Hike - Teanaway Butte

This hike on south facing slopes tends to melt out and have flowers earlier. Teanaway Butte offers great views of the Teanaway range. Expect a mix of open forest and forests recovering from the 2017 Jolly Mountain fire. The route follows a mix of roads and trails to create a 13-mile loop.

  • Moderate/Strenuous
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 13.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,500 ft
  • Pace: 2.0 mph on average, slower on the steeper parts, faster on the easier parts

This hike uses what I refer to as the "south approach," to TB and starts from the Middle Fork Teanaway road just before a DNR campground.  The route is  in mostly open forest and has lots of flowers.  The summit of TB has good views into the Teanaway range (weather permitting).    We will descend using a different set of roads and trails to create a 13-mile loop.  Note that this area burned in the 2017 Jolly Mountain fire and is in the process of recovering.

My goals for this trip are as follows:

1. Be safe.

2.  Complete the loop.

3.  Have fun and enjoy the wildflowers.

My expectations for trip participants are:

1.  Practice Leave No Trace principles.

2. Be respectful of all participants.

3.  Have the physical conditioning necessary for this trip.  No super steep parts, but expect consistent uphill travel half the time and walking on roads that can be muddy.
