Day Hike - Tatoosh Ridge

This is a very strenuous 10.4 mile RT out and back hike with 4100 feet of elevation gain, crossing stunning flower fields to a lookout with close-in views of Rainier. A higher clearance vehicle is mandatory to get to the trailhead.

  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 10.4 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 4,100 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 6,400 ft
  • Pace: 2 mph

We'll meet at the Tatoosh Ridge trailihead at 9AM - please be ready to walk!    Google map location https://goo.gl/maps/xH7KQRoeiM9MabT49.  The Mountaineers phase 2 guidelines recommend that you only sign up for this hike if you live within approximately 125 miles of the trailhead and could get there and back on one tank of gas.

This trail starts out steep, switchbacking through forest before emerging into broad flower fields and reaching the traverse trail.  Take the traverse trail (enjoy the flowers and don't forget to look over your shoulder for the Rainier views!), follow the many ups and downs to the steep side trail to the lookout site.

This is a relentlessly strenous trail so please register only if you have recent experience hiking at a steady pace for 8-10 miles with over 3000 feet of elevation gain.  Please indicate your recent hiking experience when you request leader permission.

More details will be provided as the trip gets closer and the weather forecast solidifies.
