Baker Lodge
July 30 update - The road to Artist Point will NOT be open. A lot of the higher trails are under deep snow. Hiking will be limited - bring snowshoes. Please note that reservations for the Lodge MUST BE PREPAID through the website or by calling 1-800-573-8484. To register you need to log on to, do an Activity Search (the orange field) for Lodges and then set the dates to include the weekend dates and hit search. You don't need to enter anything other than the date range to pull up the Baker Lodge listings. Remember "less is more" with this website. The Lodge will be open for us Thursday night through Sunday morning. This is a great opportunity to explore the North Cascades! Check out the new Green Trails Map - #13S Mount Baker Wilderness Climbing. We'll spend Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at Mt. Baker Lodge with day hiking in the area. There will be lots of hiking opportunities for all levels (easy to moderate/strenuous difficulty and leisurely to moderate pace), with trips led by Tacoma hike leaders and informal groups hiking on their own. The Naturalists will also be at the Lodge this weekend and will probably have room on some of their trips anyone interested in learning more about what we see on the trails. Hiking destinations will be determined based on road and trail conditions when we get to the area. It is wilderness hiking so you should come prepared with the Ten Essentials including extra clothing should the weather in the mountains turn cold and winter like - gloves and extra gloves and a fleece or wool hat, and rain gear (jacket and pants) are essential even in August - we needed them in 2010!
