This hike will include the following marked Sun Mountain trails: Kraule, Beaver Pond, Chickadee (part), Magpie (part), Radar Creek, Patterson Lake, Patterson Mountain (in the Mountaineer's “Day Hiking North Cascades” guide), Winthrop (part), Black Bear (part) and Moose trails. This hike (and a shorter 8 ½ mile hike at a leisurely pace) on the Sun Mountain trails and other activities at Sun Mountain Lodge are part of the National Trails Day event on June 4 supported by the Mountaineers and a range of other organizations. Discounted lodging on June 3 and 4 is available at Sun Mountain Lodge and an optional Cowboy Dinner offered there on June 4 (see details below). Participants are responsible for making their own lodging/dining reservations and are welcome to find their own lodging elsewhere in the Winthrop area (visit www.centralreservations.com ). There are other dinner options at available at Sun Mountain Lodge and elsewhere in Winthrop and the neighboring town of Twisp other than the Cowboy Dinner.
Lodging at Sun Mountain Lodge, Nr Winthrop, WA 98862: Half-price rooms are offered to Mountaineer members in the main lodge for June 3 and 4. It is your responsibility to reserve your own lodging.
The reduced price rooms are $100.00 per night plus taxes or $117.50 plus taxes for mountain view rooms. Each room has either one queen and two single beds or two queen beds. No extra charge will be made for third and forth guest sharing the same room. Participants can share a room with other Mountaineers, family members and friends who wish to take part in this exciting National Trails Day event. Cowboy Dinner: Will occur on Saturday June 4 starting at 5:00 p.m. The cost is $47.00 plus tax, which includes a horse or wagon ride down to a homestead cabin where a barbecued steak dinner will be waiting. Sun Mountain will not take reservations for the dinner until mid-April. There are only 18 horses, so if people want to ride horses, they need to make their reservations when sign-up begins or shortly thereafter.
