**Welcome to Hiking Series***
Get yourself out and on the trails during the off-season by joining the Tacoma Hiking and Backpacking Committee on a series of easy-to-moderate fall and winter hikes that are focused on beginners. Learn tips, tricks, and strategies from our experienced hike leaders to increase your confidence to get outside and enjoy yourself. Hikes will range from 4 to 6 miles and will be led at a slower pace, perfect for beginning hikers. These trips will run from November 2025 through March 2026.
About the Hike
Route: Forest and shoreline trails connecting the north Squaxin Park lots, pedestrian bridge, playground area, and Ellis Cove loop, with a short beach access spur if tides allow. Approx. 5 miles, 400–500 ft gain, mostly well-maintained park trails with some roots, stairs, and short steep sections.
We'll hike the North Forest Loop, then cross the pedestrian bridge to the playground with restrooms. Next, we'll travel the Ellis Cove trail and enjoy the views of Budd Inlet. If the tides allow, we'll take a spur trail to the beach for a snack break. We'll cross back over the pedestrian bridge and return to the north side forest trails.
