8:00 AM at Maple Valley P & R
From the trailhead that’s off Highway 410 east of Tipsoo Lake we will traverse the hillside meadows east of Chinook Pass. We will then climb gently to Sheep Lake at 2.5 miles. The trail rounds the east side of the lake and climbs more steeply to the rocky saddle of Sourdough Gap at 3.5 miles. After a further 0.25 mile north on the PCT on clear day we will get great views of Morse Creek Meadows, Placer Lake and the spine of American Ridge. We will have lunch at the lake or gap. Due to the time of year and relatively high elevation, depending on snow conditions, traction devices and hiking poles may be advisable. It may also only be possible to hike as far as Sheep Lake. I will scout the trail a few days ahead of the hike and check WTA reports to share with those of you who sign up.
