We'll meet at the US Forest Service Ranger Station in Enumclaw at 9:30am: 450 Roosevelt Ave E, Enumclaw
From there, we can consolidate cars and caravan about 30 minutes to the trailhead. We may need to park 0.5 Miles away from the trailhead depending on the condition of FR 73 and whether we have cars with 4wd.
To reach the trailhead: From Enumclaw, drive east 25 miles on SR 410. Turn right on Forest Road 73 (Huckleberry Road) and continue about a half mile to the trailhead.
Drivers will need to display a NW Forest Pass.
There will be an optional post-hike stop in Enumclaw (maybe at Pita's Taqueria or The Historic Mint Restaurant & Alehouse?) for food, drinks, and socializing.
We'll hike about 8 miles round trip along the White River with under 500 ft. of elevation gain. About two miles in, we'll have a chance to see Skookum Falls. [There is a steep and sometimes muddy side trail for a closer view of the falls. We'll get as close as we can/want to safely.]
**Update: The leader scouted this hike on Sat., March 10th. The side trail to the falls became questionable (steep and icy), so we'll just be enjoying the falls from the main trail.
The trail is a good dirt tread with some boardwalks and bridges over marshy areas. There is a high possibility of snow, ice, and standing water on the trail, so gaiters, traction devices (microspikes/trail crampons/Yaktrax), and trekking poles are recommended.
This trail is shared with mountain bikes.
Hiking time is estimated to be between 4-5 hours, including a 30-minute lunch break.
