Day Hike - Shady Lane & Staircase Rapids
We will begin our hike on the Shady Lane Trail*. Our hike will take us along the Staircase (Rapids Loop) Trail and the North Fork Skokomish Trail to Spike Camp where we will enjoy our lunch. Then we’ll return along North Fork Skokomish Trail. *This is a slight change to the original route due to road closures. The distance of the hike will remain close to 7.2 miles.

We will meet at the Haggen Foods parking lot (1313 Cooper Point Road SW, Olympia) at 8:15 a.m. and depart by 8:30 a.m. Alternate meeting locations can be set up for hikers coming from the north or east.
We will begin our hike on the Shady Lane Trail. We will hike along the Staircase (Rapids Loop) Trail and cross the North Fork Skokomish River on the suspension bridge. Turning north on the North Fork Skokomish Trail, we’ll hike 1-2 miles . After having lunch, we’ll return on the east side of the river along the North Fork Skokomish Trail to the Staircase Ranger Station.
Please be prepared for the hike with the 10 essentials, especially rain gear.
This trail has some low-lying water in the Spring, so wear footwear that is appropriate for the conditions.
