Meet at 10:30 AM at the gate at the East Rattlesnake Ledge trailhead at the north end of the main parking lot. No parking pass is required in the Rattlesnake Ledge parking lot. If you park in the John Wayne Trail parking lot, which is east of the Rattlesnake Ledge parking lot, you must display a Discover Pass. To reach the Rattlesnake Ledge parking lot, drive east on I-90, take Exit 32, heading south (right) onto 436th Ave SE, which becomes Cedar Falls Road SE. Continue several miles uphill to the turnoff to your right, followed by a left turn into the Rattlesnake Ledge parking lot.
There are portapotties near the parking lot. The initial quarter mile of the hike is on the old access road around Rattlesnake Lake to the former parking lot at the former trailhead, where there are a dozen portapotties. From there the trail switchbacks uphill to the viewpoint at the ledge, where we have lunch before returning by the same route. On the drive home there will be an optional refreshment stop in North Bend at iconic Twede's Restaurant, made famous by the Twin Peaks TV series.
