Day Hike - Squaxin Park

Families with children, come join the Mountaineers for a mushroom hunt and identification adventure! Our special guest Linda will be presenting a “Kid Friendly” lesson on mushrooms. Children will have the opportunity to forage for mushrooms followed by a group ID experience.

Activity begins at 10:00am on the Rose Garden Lawn at Priest Point Park.

We will be practicing social distancing throughout this adventure. Parents, please help us keep each other safe by setting expectations with your kiddos ahead of time! And let's be prepared to meet one another with flexibility and grace as we navigate the challenges of modifying our pre-pandemic practices :)

In addition to the 10 Essentials, families should bring the following:

  • A bucket or basket for harvesting mushrooms.
  • A mask (or other suitable face covering) and hand sanitizer to ensure adherence to our Covid Code of Conduct

The Ten Essentials

  1. Navigation: map & compass, or GPS.
  2. Sun protection: sunscreen, sunglasses, hats, sleeves, etc.
  3. Insulation (extra clothing): the layering system is your friend!
  4. Illumination: flashlight or headlamp, extra batteries.
  5. First aid supplies: appropriate to activity, including any necessary medication.
  6. Fire starter: for absolute emergencies only.
  7. Gear repair kit and tools, including knife.
  8. Nutrition (extra food).
  9. Hydration (extra water).
  10. Emergency shelter.
