8:30 AM at Shi Shi Trailhead
Join the Washington Coast Savers in the annual Washington Coast Cleanup. Spend the day picking up trash at Point of the Arches. Last year, nearly 3000 volunteers removed over 64 tons of marine debris from our coast! Join us. If you like, meet us at the Makah Tribal Center in Neah Bay (see map at http://www.makah.com/map.html) on the evening of April 16th where we will car camp, courtesy of the Tribe, or, if you rather, come out April 17th and, on your own, follow the Shi Shi Beach trail to the beach and then south to Point of the Arches. It is likely that the Shi Shi Beach trail will be muddy. Gum boots are great for the trail; for the beach, you’ll want light hiking boots or sandals and neoprene socks (to protect feet from sand). Bring a light pack that includes water, lunch, rain gear (as needed), sharp knife (for cutting rope and nets), rubber gloves, and, ideally, 2 or 3 trash bags per person. (If you cannot bring trash bags, Coast Savers will supply some trash bags.) Remember to keep your pack light so you can pack out more trash. No dogs allowed in this area of ONP. This is not good outing for children, but other beaches listed at the coast savers website are good destinations for kids. See www.coastsavers.org/washington_coast_cleanup/point-arches.html for additional information and to volunteer. This outing will be leaderless but give me a call if you have any questions.
